Things to do

Lake Vyrnwy

Just on the edge of The Snowdonia National Park, Lake Vyrnwy is set amidst the remote and beautiful Berwyn Mountains. With spectacular waterfalls, and unspoilt open countryside, a visit to Lake Vyrnwy is a wonderful day out for all the family. There is also boat and canoe hire on the lake.

Powis Castle and Garden

Powis Castle, built around 1200 as a medieval fortress, sits high on a rock above its world-famous garden. Laid out under the influence of Italian and French styles, the garden is overhung with clipped yews and shelters rare and tender plants. It retains original lead statues and features an orangery on the terraces. Our guests have told us that the gardens are some of the best they have ever seen - so it's well worth a visit whilst you're here.

Our nearest pub is 13 minutes drive away in Llanfair  or you have a large choice of restaurants and pubs in Welshpool. Throughout the year we host social events onsite such as bonfire parties and pizza evenings.

For Birdwatchers

We're lucky here at Camp Plas to have an amazing wealth of birds making it a bird watcher and naturalist's dream. You'll find Dippers under the bridge and Grey Wagtails and Goosanders on the river. Pied and Spotted Flycatchers, Wood Warblers and Redstarts sing in the trees. We also have 4 species of owl to look out for with Barn Owls spotted in one of our barns on our night cam. There is the Dyfi Osprey Project in Machynlleth.

For Children

Close by there is Llanfair steam train which opened in 1903 to connect the town of Welshpool and nearby Llanfair Caereinion. They host events such as the Fish & Chips Evening Train on Sunday, May 24, 2020 and Welsh Tea on the Train on Saturday May 30th & 31st 2020 and July 25 and July 26 2020.

For Horseriders

We are lucky enough to be a 10 minute drive away from the horseriding rainbow trails and are perfectly situation to offer accommodation near to the Rainbow Trails. Camp Plas is nestled just below the Allt Dolanog, famous for the Melangell Horse Riding Trail . Our paddock is large enough for two horses but there is the option for more if booked in advanced. Please email us at if you have any questions.

Shop & Petrol Station

We have an honesty shop on site selling essentials such as milk, eggs, bread and you can also pre-order local bacon, sausages and  bbq packs.  Our local petrol station, butchers and Spar is 13 minutes drive away in Llanfair or there's a larger Spar in Llanfyllin which is a 20 minute drive away. Welshpool is our nearest major town (and railway station) and has little cafes, independent shops and larger food shops such as Tesco and Aldi.

Nearby Beaches

Our favourite beach is dog friendly Ynyslas Beach in Borth which is roughly 1 hour away from the site. On the way through, you can stp off at the quaint village of Machynlleth which has some beautiful homeware shops and cafes.
